Words After Work: A Series of Writing Workshops for Wellness, Advocacy and Self-Empowerment

The 'Words After Work' writing workshop series aims to advance  your writing skills in personal, advocacy and non-fiction writing.

As well as learning, these workshops are a way to convene smart, funny and socially aware writers to share voices and resources.  Workshop fees vary and are always affordable.

Pro bono Workshops for Immigrant Advocacy Organizations

Note: In light of our current situation in the U.S., and as someone who has come through the U.S. immigration system, I plan to offer my advocacy-writing workshop probono (no fee) to groups or non-profits who support immigrant rights or provide advocacy-related services for immigrants. Contact me for details.

Featured Presenter, The Examined Life Conference, Carver School of Medicine, Iowa

I am co-presenting with author Dr. Carolyn Roy Bornstein.

Read about our Presentation, “SHOW. TELL. DELETE: Crafting Our Stories with Courage, Humility, Integrity and Power on first-person nonfiction writing” at the Conference website.

I can design a workshop for your organization, but here are some ready-to-go topics:

  • Good Writing. Good HealthJournaling for wellness and setting up a daily writing practice--plus, lots of opportunity for participant writing and tips for getting published.

  • Advocacy and opinion writing - How to write opinion essays, Op-Eds, media pieces and other advocacy publications.

  • Writing The Personal Essay - Learn the craft of penning a personal essay that tells your first-person story and also makes a universal point about our shared humanity. Primarily a craft or ‘how-to’ workshop, this also offers a chance for readings, discussion, peer review.

  • Just the Facts, Ma'am: Truth, lies and ethics in writing the personal or memoir essay - How much do we reveal about ourselves? How much do we withhold? How much can we ever write about our family, friends or ourselves? This workshop will attempt to answer these questions and empower writers to write interesting and ethical nonfiction.

Please complete the inquiry form (below) and I will be in touch.

About My Creative Writing Workshops

"This workshop just wasn't long enough."

"This workshop just wasn't long enough."

I have been leading creative writing workshops and classes with adults and teens for over 17 years.

As well as a degree in teaching, a master's in English and extensive experience in writing, editing and publishing, I have an in-born capacity to listen, inquire and empathize.  Above all, I believe in delivering a value-packed, content-rich class in which each student gets heard.

Testimonials on Creative Writing Workshops:

If you ever get a chance to meet Ms. Greaney or attend one of her workshops, I highly recommend it. She is a delight to listen to ... very clear and demanding speaker who holds your attention, makes you laugh, and says a lot of very true things that make you think, and keep thinking ... the overall impression is of kindness, hilarity, and respect.

I thought you led a fabulous group and got us all going into areas we didn’t even suspect we’d travel to in the course of a day and a half. I do appreciate a really good workshop leader, and you are among the very best
