Words After Work: A Series of Writing Workshops for Wellness, Advocacy and Self-Empowerment
The 'Words After Work' writing workshop series aims to advance your writing skills in personal, advocacy and non-fiction writing.
As well as learning, these workshops are a way to convene smart, funny and socially aware writers to share voices and resources. Workshop fees vary and are always affordable.
Note: In light of our current situation in the U.S., and as someone who has come through the U.S. immigration system, I plan to offer my advocacy-writing workshop probono (no fee) to groups or non-profits who support immigrant rights or provide advocacy-related services for immigrants. Contact me for details.
I can design a workshop for your organization, but here are some ready-to-go topics:
- Good Writing. Good Health – Journaling for wellness and setting up a daily writing practice--plus, lots of opportunity for participant writing and tips for getting published.
- Advocacy and opinion writing - How to write opinion essays, Op-Eds, media pieces and other advocacy publications.
- Writing The Personal Essay - Learn the craft of penning a personal essay that tells your first-person story and also makes a universal point about our shared humanity. Primarily a craft or ‘how-to’ workshop, this also offers a chance for readings, discussion, peer review.
- Just the Facts, Ma'am: Truth, lies and ethics in writing the personal or memoir essay - How much do we reveal about ourselves? How much do we withhold? How much can we ever write about our family, friends or ourselves? This workshop will attempt to answer these questions and empower writers to write interesting and ethical nonfiction.
